I'm noticing a lot of network TV news showing video that says the opposite of the commentary around it. I'm sure it's been going on for quite longer than my noticing, but I rarely catch the network news.
Brian Williams and NBC News are doing the obligatory, "More death in Iraq today. Car bomb kills a bunch of people. More proof that war is wrong and America is bad." This before starting another story with, "Another reason to be angry tonight...." Well, he sure does know the audience for network news. People looking for a reason to be angry. And I must say that someone in the NBC makeup department has done a bang up job of botoxing Williams' face into a fixed state of mildly panicked worry.
Anyway, on this Iraqi story Williams is doing, they're showing B-roll of a bunch of Iraqis standing around looking at a bombed out car. The men are inspecting the guts of the car closely and having discussions. Kids are poking it with sticks. No police seem to be around and hundreds of folks in the background are milling about with their personal business.
My question to the media: If those Iraqis on TV don't really give a shit, why should I?
